My cat miscarried full term. What causes it and will it happen again?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 11 months old | 7 lbs

My cat has been pregnant 4 times now because we can't afford to spay. The 3rd time she miscarried full term, for what seems like no reason. She had them inside of her for too long and never tried to go into labor. Now she's pregnant again, and I was wondering will she miscarry again? And what might cause full term miscarriages?

Yes, it is possible for her to have another miscarriage. Usually this happens due to a viral component. Is she up to date on her vaccinations?? Honestly, it is best to spay her. There are many low-cost or no-cost places to have cats spayed. The highest I have seen it at a low cost place is about $25. That is extremely inexpensive. Please find a way to get this done. I suggest you call Panhandle Humane Society in your area and ask them if they do this service there. If not, they can likely recommend you to a low cost clinic. I also found Animal Health Center in your area: ( https://www.starherald.com/news/local_news/animal-health-center-helps-reduce-animal-overpopulation-with-world-spay/article_473b6022-8d76-505b-8f8b-19221a0af093.html ) Hope this helps. Best wishes.
