Why is my budgie puffed up, not whistling? Is it sick or contagious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Female

Hi, I have a budge and it’s puffed up and doesn’t whistle . The cage it’s in I had another bird that died. He was an old bird. I cleaned it the way it should be cleaned . I’m worried it could be that. Thank you Lynette.

Peppi is probably ill, but i couldn't tell you what is wrong based on these very general symptoms, you will need to take her to an avian vet where a blood test and faecal exam will be done to determine what is the cause of the disease before it can be treated.

This is probably a sign of a respiratory disease, most likely an infection. You will need to take Winston to an avian vet specialist ASAP in order to get it checked and treated, he might need an antibiotic course.
