My dog's stomach looks big after drinking water. Bloat or normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Schnauzer | Male | neutered | 8 lbs

I think my dogs are bloated from drinking to much water. Can they die? Is there any home remedies to help the bloat get away? Look at the pics is this normal? One dog is a Maltese/Bichon the other is a Maltese/Schnauzer mix. Nobody believes that its a bloat. But i know they looked bigger ever since they got water

Hi there. If they drank a lot of water at one time, it's certainly possible that their stomachs might be slightly larger for a short time. As long as they are acting normal, this shouldn't be anything to worry about. Signs of "bloat" (gastric dilatation and volvulus, or GDV) include repeated attempts to vomit, pacing and panting, acting restless or uncomfortable, pale gums, and weakness or collapse. If your dogs are showing these symptoms, then you need to take them to a vet right away. But if they're acting normal and you just feel that their stomachs look a bit larger after drinking water, this is not bloat and is nothing to be concerned about.
