Puppy has scabs, bald spots, and is lethargic. How to provide relief?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 1 month and 19 days old

There's a puppy in my parents' place. I'm very concerned because I noticed it had yellowish, flaky scabs on its chest and ears, bald spots, and matted fur. It was also lethargic and couldn't eat much solid food. I plan to take it to the vet tomorrow, but I want to know if there's anything I can do to lessen the symptoms or provide relief for the puppy.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Mochi! I am glad you will be bringing him to the Vet! I would worry about mites, either demodex or scabies, ring worm or a bad skin infection. If it is a skin infection the Vet will likely prescribe a medicated shampoo and antibiotics. If he has mites they will prescribe medications. As of now I would just wait for the exam, I would say bathe him but it would be ideal for the Vet to see his skin as is. Try to feed him some boiled chicken or watered down canned puppy food. Good luck!
