Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | spayed | 1 year and 8 months old | 9.5 lbs

My dog is fighting 2 really major fights right now and are all tied to food intolerance . The vet kept her tonight since 10 days augmentin and recheck showed blood in her urine. Her anal glands have been having to be expressed weekly and one time went too long sparking the infection . I’m totally changing food to taste of wild lamb, lamb wet food goats milk for tummy . My question is do I wait to try to transition food during cipro if so is goats milk enough chiweenie 1 y 8lbs

Hell, sorry to hear about Lucy. I think she may continue to have her anal gland problem despite you changing food. Hopefully however, this may firm up her stools and decrease how often she needs to have her anal glands expressed. I would wait an transition her food until she is done with all medications. Antibiotics can cause an upset stomach and sometimes diarrhea, so wait until she is done with medications and then do the diet change. I don't think she will need milk for her tummy, I think that may cause her to have a worse upset stomach as its harder to digest. Ideally she should have a bland diet, plain white rice and low fat cottage cheese. She can have this now, or which ever bland diet your veterinarian thinks is best for Lucy while her signs improve. After she has come out of this, she can be started on the taste of the wild lamb food. Hope this helps and best of luck.
