Are male cats more aggressive, spray, or harder to litter train?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 1 month and 13 days old | 1lb

Hi I was wondering if I can have information on Male Cats/kittens? I was looking online but then I figured I would rather hear it from a vet because you can’t really trust everything you read online. Is it true that male cats “spray” and to make them stop you have to get them fixed? And is it also true that it takes longer to litter box train a male kitten than a female? These are all thing I have read online. Oh, and also are male cats/kittens more aggressive than females? Thanks again, Liz

Hello, congratulations on your new kitten. Yes male cats do spray when they are intact as a territorial behavior. To get them to stop you do have to neuter them as this behavior is driven through hormones. In terms of litter box training, they should be very similar and you should be able to train your male kitten to use the litter box regularly. Aggression is not really driven by sex, and both males and females can be equally as aggressive. As long as you interact with your cat frequently, and allow other people to interact with him them you should not have problems dealing with your kitten. Hope this helps and best of luck.
