My dog ate Hershey Kisses with wrappers. Is long-term damage possible?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pug | Male | unneutered | 10 months and 19 days old | 14 lbs

My dog ate about 12 Hershey kisses with the wrappers on, about 2 days ago. He’s been pooping and vomiting up the wrappers. I am wondering if this will cause long term damage to him?

Chocolate toxicity can cause a significant amount of GI upset (vomiting and diarrhea), but does not tend to cause long term problems unless the dose was high enough to cause seizures. The foil wrappers should not cause a problem unless there is enough foil to cause an obstruction in the GI tract. If the vomiting and diarrhea is still continuing three days later, it would be worth having your vet examine Louie and give him some medication to help him feel better. Good luck! I hope that was helpful. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
