Why is my dog's paw pad split and has a hole between his toes?

Hi there, i have a husky cross pomeranian... he has been having some trouble with his back paw. First it was the paw pad split in half now he has a sore/minor hole between his toe? What do you suggest this could be? Trying to upload a photo but it isn't working. Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | 9 months and 13 days old | 19.8 lbs

I am sorry to hear about Simba! A photo would be helpful. Whenever we have a hole in the skin as you describe I worry about a possible foreign body, such as a splinter or grass awn, or an abscess/pocket of infection that has ruptured. I would recommend having Simba's vet examine the foot. It may need to be flushed or explored, depending on the appearance.
