My cat's shaved skin is raw and red. Why won't he stop licking?

Hello. My cat has had an ongoing skin issue for the last 2 weeks since I got him shaved. He won't stop licking this one area on his side until it is raw. My vet put him on 2 weeks of antibiotics and it slowly went away but I woke up this morning to it looking worse than ever. he literally is so agitated and it looks raw and bright red :(

I would talk to your veterinarian about giving him an injection to help stop the itch. He may also need an Elizabethan collar to stop him from licking. I would recommend not shaving him again. You may also need to do the antibiotics for 4-6 weeks if his skin is that bad. It may take time but he will get resolved. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
