My budgie has diarrhea and won't eat after his cage mate died.

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Male | unneutered | 3 years old

hello I had two male budgie but up until recently one has passed away. The remaining budgie has been chirpy as normal but has had a lot of excess water around his droppings. And hasn’t been drinking water or eating much since my budgie died who was on the bottom of the cage where the food is kept. Is this normal after a budgie has died? Thanks.

Birds, just like people, can mourn the loss of a friend, however diarrhea and changes in eating/drinking habits over a prolonged period of time are not normal. If your other budgie died suddenly from an illness, and Rocco now has loose stool, it's always best to have a vet examine him and perform a fecal on a stool sample to make sure there isn't an underlying illness causing his symptoms.
