My kitten threw up once. Should I feed her bland or regular food?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 7 months and 25 days old | 6 lbs

Hi, my 9 month old kitten threw up her food for the first time today (nothing new- no change in food or diet). She also threw up white foam. She might have eaten a few flies (gross, I know), but she likes to catch them on the porch. She also might have eaten some blueberries, as we’ve been eating them by the handful and some might have fallen on the floor. I took her food away and it has been three hours. Can I feed her something bland like rice? She’s begging and has energy

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. To be honest, you can probably just offer Esmeralda a small amount of her normal food. Start with about 1/4 of her normal meal size. If she keeps that down well, you can give her a little more in a few hours (or just give her her normal sized breakfast in the morning). Of course, if vomiting recurs or attitude and appetite are poor, it’s time to see the vet. Best wishes to you and Esmeralda.
