Why is my senior cat suddenly inactive, hiding, and not eating well?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 12 years and 10 months old | 13 lbs

For the last week my 13 year old cat hasn't been moving much. I have to bring him to his food and water. When he does get up to move he runs and hides. He's using the litter box and he eats and drinks as long as it's brought to him. There's been a heat wave here of over 30 Celsius so I don't know if it's the heat or what is wrong with him

Poor guy. His symptoms indicate he may have severe arthritis or an underlying organ malfunction. It is best to get him examined by your vet to determine which is likely. For older cats, bloodwork analysis on a yearly basis is key to checking on their health and determining if they need management for any underlying disease processes. Also, if he does have arthritis, which can be detected on an x-ray, he can be managed medically with joint supplements and pain medication. I hope that your pet Loco gets well soon! Best wishes and take care.
