My cat has recurring ear infections. What are the best treatments?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | British Shorthair | Male | neutered

Hello, my cat is very ill. I’ve been to the vet about 7 times now for the same problem. He constantly has an ear infection. To start with he was treated multiple times for Mites but he kept getting a waxy, pus ear so it was not mites. I cleaned his ear every other day with solution, then was asked to give him steriods to help and still the ear has been recurring with loads of wax. He had surgery as they found a polup but now the ear wax has returned and I’m sure it’s an infection. Please help

Poor guy. I can understand your frustation here. It seems you will have to be a bit more aggressive with his treatment moving forward. You will have to get an ear bacterial culture done to determine what antibiotic will resolve the infection. Then once you find this combination of antibitoics, they can be used to develop a formula to treat the ear. You may even have to get this formulation compounded through the following compounding companies: roadrunnerpharmacy.com wedgewoodpharmacy.com If this still does not resolve the issue, then surgery is the cure for this. Ear abalation is a surgery where the complete ear canal is removed, which will resolve the ear infections once and for all, since there is no canal for the bacteria to grow anymore I hope that you get some resolve for Bailey soon! Best wishes and take care.
