My budgie makes puking noises at night, but isn't throwing up. Why?

It’s 2am and my female budgie is doing this weird noise like puking but she’s not throwing up and at day time she’s totally normal. Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Female | unspayed

It's possible there is something caught in her crop or she is regurgitating food into her mouth and then swallowing it. If the behavior continues or you see other signs of illness such as changes in weight, eating and drinking habits, behavior, etc, then having a vet take a look to rule out any more serious health issues is best. Sometimes, night frights may wake a bird up at night and cause them to make strange sounds as well. Covering the cage or leaving on a lamp on low (low enough to comfortably rest but not so bright it keeps your bird awake) may help with this and allow Lola to relax.
