Why does my dog lick her paws in her crate? How can I stop it?

My dog licks her front paws neurotically when she is put in her crate. Why? How can I prevent this? Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Female | unspayed | 8 months and 5 days old | 55 lbs
