My cat won't stop meowing after losing her companion. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 13 lbs

I had two cats and back in March I had to put down my oldest cat at 16y. My younger cat has been meowing non stop and I can’t tell if she is still mourning or if she’s lonely. I recently plugged in a feliway dispenser and there has been no change.

If Milla started meowing when you put your other cat down I would recommend making sure you spend as much time as possible with her. I would find toys that she really enjoys and play with her. Make sure she has a place she can sit on and look out a window and places to hide in. If non of this works then I would bring her to the veterinarian to rule out anything medical. If she has a clean bill of health and you feel that this is affecting her day to day life then you can discuss medication options with your veterinarian.
