It is quite possible that during his bout of diarrhea he could not hold it very well and so could not control defecation. The large bowel can recognise gas and firm feces, but not liquid feces. So when he was not scolded for accidentally messing in the house, he may have figured out that it was ok. He may also be afraid not to be able to hold it and just releases wherever he is when the urge comes on. You may have to observe him for a while and immediately take him out when you see him wanting to poop. Then praise him when he does it in the proper place. This should work. If it does not work then I suggest you have him examined by your vet, as there may be a problem with his anal sphinkters and/or the nerves operating them. Hae may also have a problem with his anal sacs as this breed often has problems with them.
