Pregnant husky: labor signs, discharge, 102 temp. Is this normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed

Husky pregnant not sure when her actual due date is. At 5am she started going to her nesting box and keeps on licking her genitals. The smell of fluid is noticeable and I see little blood discharge. I think there are no signs of struggle on contractions yet. And at around 10am, checked her temp and it was 102°. This is not her 1st pregnancy by the way. She has history of very long intervals between puppies on her previous litters. Right now she is resting outside her nesting box.

Thanks for using PetCoach. If this is not her first whelping and she needed no help last time, I’d just stand back and leave her alone. Check on her every hour or so but if she is progressing similarly to how she did last time, just leave her alone to do the birthing. The link below has more information about what problems to look for during birthing (page 4, red lettering). If you see any of those, seek veterinary care. http://lhvc.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/HANDOUT-Whelping.pdf Best of luck to you, Aya, and the pups!
