My dog's long nail looks infected. Is it serious and what should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Female | spayed | 1 year and 6 months old | 48 lbs

Is this an infection? My companion's nail has been like this for 2 days now and her nails are extremely long. Can this be part of the problem?

It could be infected. Also check and make sure the nail is not broken way up high. You could try soaking that paw in Epsom salts to see if that will help soothe it. If it doesn’t improve then have it looked at more closely.
