Why is my puppy's ear laying differently? Is it an infection?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed | 3 months and 21 days old | 18 lbs

Hello, My 4mth old puppy has one ear that is starting to lay differently.. she is a rescue and has a mix of border collie and some terrier... in fact her ears look similar to a Jack Russel. We are just trying to figure out if her ear is bothering her. Thanks!

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. Sometimes this can be contributed to developmental factors and the cartilage in the ear becomes more firm in a particular position. Sometimes an ear infection can cause an ear to lay differently then the other. I would recommend having Lily's ears examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.
