Why is my 9-week-old kitten sleeping in the litter box and aggressive?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 6 days old

My kitten has been sleeping in the litter box, and when he’s not in there, he’s being very aggressive; he bites and claws without being provoked. Can teething start as early as 9 weeks?

Yes he will be teething but it is likely he is anxious and unsure of his environment and is trying to hide in the litter box. Comfortzone or adaptil diffusers are very helpful, as are natural calming supplements such as kalm aid or zylkene or specialised calming/stress diets. Providing him a cardboard box with comfy bedding and only a small, kitten sized doorway can help to provide him a safe hiding hole until he feels more comfortable
