My senior dog is lethargic after vomiting. When should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cardigan Welsh Corgi | Female | spayed | 15 years and 9 months old | 33 lbs

My 12 year old spayed cardigan welsh corgi appears to be very lethargic after she threw up a couple of times 2 days ago. She is drinking water, passing normal stools, and gets up to change position occasionally. She is interested in food although not begging as usually would. She has eaten her regular amount of kibble today, has not thrown up in over 36 hours.

I am sorry to hear about Cora! I would recommend bringing her in to her vet for an exam. There are a huge number of things that can cause lethargy in dogs. Your vet can take a more detailed history and do a physical exam which may help guide them in recommendations which will likely include bloodwork to check for things like liver and kidney disease, infection, cancer, and anemia. They may also recommend x-rays depending on their findings.
