Why does my new puppy sit on walks and hide between my legs?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | 2 months and 11 days old

I got my puppy yesterday and its been eating pooping and peeing but now when we try to take it for a walk it just sits. When we stand next to him while he's sitting he would get up and stand in between our legs.

Buddy probably just needs a little time to get used to his new surroundings. Don't try too many different things at once. Let him get comfortable with you and your routine; then you can gradually include him in your activities. I would recommend a good obedience training school, where he can learn to walk on a leash in the company of strange dogs and people. This should build his confidence.
