My cat has a UTI catheter. Is bloody discharge normal? Won't drink.

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 4 years old

My 4 y/o cat was recently treated (2 days ago) for a UTI. Slight blockage. Vet said it was caught early enough to not have caused any damage. Currently he is home with a catheter and he is leaking, but I've noticed a few drops of blood. Is this normal for catheterization or not? I also am unable to get him to drink water. He has eaten a little. But not near what's normal for 2 days.

I am sorry to hear about Dexter. You don't mention if this is a urinary catheter or an intravenous catheter. We will sometimes see blood in the urine come out of a urinary catheter in cats with a UTI or cystitis, so it is not unusual but definitely something to let your vet know about. If this is an intravenous (IV) catheter in a vein then we would be concerned it is coming out or the cap is detaching and leaking and it may need to be removed and he should be seen by the vet as soon as possible.
