Why is my female dog drinking so much water? Is it a health issue?

Three German Shepherds. 9 yr old male,his off spring son who's 3 and the mother who's 7 The males,rarely take more than a few sips of water each day. The female is like a camel and drinks all the time. Just took 9 yr old home.from vet. Severe dehydration. He's on meds to correct diarrhea as well.. Do female dogs naturally drink more than males? Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 8 years old | 108 lbs
