My dog gets diarrhea from wet food. Why is dry kibble okay for him?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 10 years and 6 months old | 20 lbs

I feed my dog premium grain free hypoallergenic wet food but he has severe diarrhea from any food that isn't dry. He has no problem with switching kibbles as long as it is dried and my vet has no idea. I don't want an expensive X-ray because i can only feed him dried food and no problem. It seems he has issues with wet cooked meat (never fed him raw), because he has no problem with undried fruits or vegetables. Any idea what is going on?

Hello! Dogs are creatures of habit when it comes to their diets and gastrointestinal distress when being fed a novel food is common. Since Toby is normally fed kibble, being fed anything outside of that will be upsetting to his GI tract. I would recommend feeding him a dry kibble that he does well on and not feeding him anything outside that diet. I hope this is helpful!
