Why is my budgie's eye wet, discharging, and feathers brown?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Female | unspayed | 5 months and 16 days old | 0.0625 lbs

Hi, I have a budgie named Snowy. She is probably around 5-6 months right now. Anyways, I have to first point out her behaivor is normal. She’s eating, drinking, playing with her toys, bathing, and chirping with her friend, Daisy. However, I just noticed this morning her eye is wet and I think discharging. Also, the feathers around her eye are brown. Her other eye is perfectly normal. Please help! I can’t afford vet. Also, I have a pic it’s not letting me add it. Thanks! How can I add a pic?

Hi there, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Snowy may have an eye infection or allergies affecting her eye. The discoloration around the eye is probably from the excessive tearing. Since you are unable to take him to the vet try flushing the eye with a sterile saline solution and using a humidifier in the room to help in case it is allergies. Best of luck.
