Why did my growly dog play with a new dog, but my other dog growled?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 50 lbs

A few weeks ago we had a doggie sleepover with a female dog named Mazi. Bentley is usu ally growling at other dogs ,male and female. With mazi,Bentley came and played and kept her warm. On the other hand my other dog was growling instead of Bentley, and my other dog is the oldest! What’s up with them?

It can take a while for dogs to get used to new companions. As long as they are still playing together and not hurting one another I would not be too worried about this behavior. The more they interact together the more quickly they will become used to each other. Just make sure they are always supervised so they don’t hurt each other. I hope this helps.
