My cat fell from balcony. Paw hurts, growls when touched. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | 9 months and 29 days old | 7 lbs

my cat fell off the second story balcony. The harness and leash held her to the top of the first floor until it broke open and she fell. She is walking just fine. And just went to the bathroom in her box. I noticed she shook her leg a bit like something was bugging her but she was walking just fine. I touched her back foot and she started growling and hissing which she never does all I was able to see was very lil blood comming from one nail on her back paw but it’s not broken off. What do I do.

Wow, I’m glad she is walking fine and using the box. You’re very lucky she wasn’t more injured. I expect she is bruised and painful. I recommend keeping her quiet and monitoring her to make sure she’s eating, drinking and walking normally. There is no safe over the counter pain medication for cats. If she’s still painful or becomes worse I recommend a veterinary exam. They can give a safe prescription medication for pain in cats if needed. Cats generally heal well on their on their own given time and rest. That was a bad fall though so please to take her in right away if you see a medical problem develop.
