Dog has fever, swollen neck after antibiotic & Vectra 3D. Reaction?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Brittany | Male | unneutered | 3 years and 1 month old | 44 lbs

My dog was treated for atopic dermatitis with antibiotic injection (alas, I don't know what was the antibiotic exactrly), same day later we putted on him Vectra 3D. The next day he has fever - 39.8 C, I took him to the vet and he injected him with analgin, the next day the dog was better, but his neck was swollen. My question is: is this bad reaction to the antibiotic injection, overdose, ot just the combination of two medications was too much for him? Thank you!

I would take Robin back to the vet for examination of his neck. This is not a common side effect for most of our medications. I would be concerned that there is something more serious going on to cause a fever and swelling. It could be a bacterial infection that doesn’t respond to that particular antibiotic, a viral infection, or something more scary like cancer of the head or lymphoma. Also, antibiotics may be used to treat skin infection secondary to atopic dermatitis, but they don’t treat the cause. Once Robin is better, he may benefit from a prescription hypoallergenic diet or medications to treat the allergy/atopy.
