My dog has rough, non-itchy skin spots. Could it be eczema? Home care?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Female | spayed | 2 years and 9 months old | 48 lbs

My new dog has these small, round, rough spots of skin. They don't itch her. The animal shelter vet didn't note anything about it in her medical history. Could it be eczema or psoriasis? Any at home treatment before I take her to the doctor? Thanks!

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Laila. She appears to have developed calluses on her elbows as a result of laying on hard surfaces. They are common in larger breed dogs. Supply her with beds or other soft areas to lay around your house. If the skin cracks open or bleeds, she will need to see her veterinarian as they can become infected. Otherwise you can apply Aquaphor to soften and moisturize the roughened skin. I hope this information helps!
