My dog is not eating, panting, and lethargic. Is it serious?

Pet's info: Dog | Cairn Terrier | Male | neutered | 5 years and 4 months old

Hello, my cairn terrier Alfie has been a bit off lately. Over the past week he has been off his food some days not eating much at all, he has also not slept in his bed the previous night and started panting this afternoon and slowed down. He has been a lot more subdued today as well. Should I be concerned and visit a vet or is it just a phase and he is just not as hungry, Thanks Ellie.

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I would recommend a visit to the vet. A week of inappetance, lethargy, and now panting is concerning for many different conditions, some fatal without treatment. Concerns would be a foreign object stuck in his gut, severe gastritis, heart disease, infection/sepsis, etc. Lethargy and inappetance (not eating) are vague clinical signs that can be associated with many disease conditions. Your vet will do an exam, and likely run some bloodwork, and might have to take some x-rays. Best of luck with Alfie, I hope he feels better soon!
