What to do when your rabbit is less social and humping after a trip?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Male | unneutered | 9 months and 1 day old | 4 lbs

I recently went on a twenty day trip and left my pet rabbit with a trusted individual who took good care of him. The only problem were his nails, which had not been cut for a long time. I noticed they started to chip/break and bend. Since I have come home, he has been acting less social. He used to come up to his cage to try to interact with me and follow me around. He was a very affectionate and loving bunny. He has also started humping things a lot. What should I do to get him happy again?

Trim his nails if you haven't done so yet. Long nails can be uncomfortable. Your extended absence could have been stressful for Ringo. Spend more time with him in the coming days and weeks to get him read limited to you again. Move slowly and talk softly around him. Offer treats and rewards as he begins to "open up" again. An exam with your veterinarian or a vet experienced in treating rabbits wouldn't be wrong just in case Ringo isn't feeling well.
