My spayed dog leaks urine, Proin isn't working. What can I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Coonhound - blue tick | Female | spayed | 80 lbs

My 80 pound coonhound leaks. The vet said it was from the way she was spayed. She won't eat if I give her proem. She's is much worse in hot weather than cold, and when I have company. Do you have any suggestions on what else I can try?

I'm sorry to hear that Bijou has developed some leaking. Unfortunately we do see that in a number of spayed females. Proin is one of the most common medications that we will use for urinary incontinence, but there are several others that you can try as well. I am attaching a handout with more information about urinary incontinence including treatment options below. https://veterinarypartner.vin.com/default.aspx?pid=19239&id=4952092 I would recommend asking your veterinarian about trying another medication for incontinence. Incurin or DES are the next most common medications to try after Proin. Good luck! I hope that was helpful. Thanks for using PetCoach.
