My guinea pigs rumble strut. When can I safely cage them together?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Guinea Pig | Male | unneutered | 6 months and 15 days old

I've been introducing Cosmo & Sebastian for three days now. I added 2 bowls today in addition to what I have been putting down water, hay, treats and lots of toys. They briefly shared pellets in the same bowl which gives me hope. They run around, chase each other, & popcorn. My concern is Sebastia rumble struts a lot when they are together. But separated in cages next to each other he will bite the bars seeming like he wants to be close to Cosmo. Should I cage them together now? Or give it time?

Hi thanks for using PetCoach. It sounds like you’re doing a great job introducing Sebastian and Cosmo. I would probably give it a little more time before you cage them together 24/7. Continue introducing them in a neutral territory. Here is a bit more information on introducing GP. If both guinea pigs are mail, it may be a good idea to consider neutering them as males can often be territorial. http://www.guineapigmanual.com/introducing-new-guinea-pigs/
