My dog's nipple wound is green, open, and has lumps. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed

A couple months ago, my dog had something near her nipple. It hasn't healed and it's open. She has rash like patches and have lumps under her skin. Doesn't seem to bother her, but now the wound is green as I checked when I saw my dog licking that area.

It looks as if Fluffie has a pretty severe infection of her mammary glad. She will need antibiotics and possible a surgery to debride the dead tissue so it can heal. I’m sure this is painful and uncomfortable for her as well. I would recommend getting her to a vet as soon as possible.
