My dog's ears are red, scabby, green, and she's crying. What's wrong?

My mothers cocker spaniel is constantly itching her ears. Today when I checked her ears I found red open scabs in one ear and green residue in the other. She is always crying and doesn’t allow others to touch her ears. Ever since my mother bought her she has been itching her ears very violently but recently it has gotten so much worse.
