My 5-year-old Cavalier dog is sleeping more than usual. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cavalier King Charles Spaniel | Female | spayed | 5 years and 8 months old | 20 lbs

Honey seems to be sleeping much more than she used to. I have her sister from the same litter and she is still pretty active. They are both only 5 years old. Honey breathes deeply being a Cavalier breed but I worry it’s something more serious. She is up to date on all vaccinations and takes Heartworm preventive and wears a Seresta collar for flea and tick preventive.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I would recommend a vet visit to assess Honey’s health. CKCS can be prone to severe cardiac disease so I recommend having her assessed to be sure she doesn’t have any heart issues causing her to tire easily. The vet may also discuss doing some diagnostic if all appears normal on her exam to rule out any metabolic disease.
