Hi and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I would not recommend bathing Tom in the Lindane shampoo daily. There are not many studies that show the lindane shampoo really works on dogs since it is a shampoo that is intended for human use. There are many different effective treatment options available to your that are safe for Tom to treat scabies. There are topical medications like selamectin (Revolution) or Moxidectin (Advantage Multi). There are also dips/bathing options like lime-sulfur dips weekly. Lastly, there are oral medications like bravecto and simparica. I would consult your veterinarian to see if any of these options are available to you given Tom's clinical signs. Good luck!

Hi there. I'm so sorry to hear about Tom's troubles. Scabies can be very annoying and very itchy! Please be sure to see your own doctor to make sure you haven't contracted the mites also, especially if you are at all itchy. Lindane is labeled to treat scabies and some other parasites of the skin. Although I've never used it personally, it is indicated for use on dogs and livestock. I'm not sure what is available in your area, but a product that I would ask your vet about is ivermectin, as well as nexgard. Those are my go to products for treating the mite. However, those products are readily available to me. If your vet directed you to bathe daily, I would do so and apply the Lotion as directed for now. Also for the duration that was recommended as it's important to disrupt a parasites life cycle in order to stop it from reproducing. It never hurts to ask your vet about other options if you're not 100% comfortable with the treatment plan. He or she should be able to answer any questions you may have. Seeking a second opinion is also a good idea if that is an option for you if you're not getting your questions answered.
