My senior dog is favoring a front leg and seems to be in pain.

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Pinscher | Male | neutered | 11 years and 4 months old | 12 lbs

My dog woke up this morning not wanting to move. I picked him up and placed him on the ground and noticed he was favoring one of his front legs. He still has his appetite and I have to pick him up and place him outside to go to the bathroom. He seems like he can walk but I think he is in pain and just wants to stay on his bed. I'm not sure what he did to his leg in the night he is 10 years old. I gave him glucosimine today and an herbal dog pain medication.

I would recommend making an appointment to see your veterinarian as soon as possible. If Harley is favoring that leg and in pain, your veterinarian will be able to perform a full examination and suggest a further course of action, this may include imaging (ie X-rays) to assess that leg, and/or provision of appropriate anti-inflammatorys and pain relief as needed to make Harley more comfortable. Do ensure that you tell your veterinarian which products you have given to Harley so far so that they can ensure there are no interactions between products.
