My cat suddenly attacks our other cat after a flea collar. Why?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 3 months old

My cat is acting very aggressive all of a sudden. Going after our other cat for no reason. It all started after we put a new flea collar on the cat she is attacking. We took it off and even gave him a bath to rid of any smell but she is still attacking him. We have separated them but our other cat is very afraid right now and hiding. Any idea what could of caused it? She isn’t in heat and they always got along. She is growling and doing a teeth chattering thing also and big tail.

Cats can often exhibit misdirected aggression. It is very difficult to know what may have caused it. I recommend using feliway diffusers and spray around the house to try to help calm them. Using Feliway wipes directly on each cat immediately prior to reintroducing them may help. Feliway is a pheromone product that can help woh anxiety and aggression in cats. https://www.feliway.com/us/
