My Boxer's ears are gooey and getting worse. What's the cause?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boxer | Male | neutered | 65 lbs

My boxer started with this a few days ago and it’s progressively getting worse. It’s like gooey before it dries hard. Planning a vet visit Monday but trying to get an idea what it may be. None of my other boxers have ever experienced this. It kind of just came out of nowhere on both ears. No trauma to either ear. Thanks in advance.

It looks like Murphy has an infection on his ear. If he plays with another animal, it may be possible he got a bite wound or scrape that has become infected. A scratch or splinter from a plant could also be a possibility. If he has allergies or an ear infection, he may have scratched himself. I think a vet visit is a good idea. In the meantime try to keep the lesion clean and dry. If he allows you, you can use warm water on a washcloth to clean it twice daily.
