My cat has a painful tooth infection. Why is he breathing oddly?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My 11 year old cat cat is on antibiotics for an infected tooth, they are the plastic coated pills and because of the pain with his tooth we are struggling to feed them to him. He also occasionally breaths oddly, as if he is about to throw up, but he never does. Could it be that the pain from his tooth is causing this?

This can be from pain or nausea from the medicine and excessive drooling that can along with oral pain. You can try to feed a sensitive stomach food or talk to your vet about adding nausea medication tohim
