My cat hates taking dental pain meds. What are easy ways to give them?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | European Burmese | Male | neutered | 6 years and 4 months old | 9 lbs

We can’t afford to have our cats teeth out so they have given us temgesic tablets for him but he is so traumatised by giving them to melt in his mouth that he now runs away from us all the time which is very upsetting as he is very affectionate the vet said we could crush in us food but I don’t think they work as well. Do you agree? We don’t qualify for PDSA.

They do work by getting absorbed oral so you will lose effectiveness by mixing it in food. You can talk to your vet to see if it can be compounded to be applied topically to the inside of his ear or see about giving an liquid form.
