My 16 lb shih Tzu is 6 tears old and has developed an eye irritation that itches and his eyes are redder than they should be and he has a discharge. Is Ketotifen Fumarate safe for him to take? Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Male | unneutered | 16 lbs

I would not recommend using anything until a diagnosis has been reached. There are many causes for red eyes and allergies are quite uncommon - I would also be concerned about dry eye, ulcers, stray eyelashes contacting the surface of the eye or conjunctivitis. I recommend a prompt check up and eye exam by your vet to ensure the most appropriate treatment is used as early as possible
