My cat has a stomach infection. When can I feed him after vomiting?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Persian | Male | unneutered | 3 years and 4 months old | 4.59 lbs

My cat has a stomach infection. We took him to the vet yesterday and he got injected w some multivitamins and prescribed metrodinazole. When we got home he ate a bit of leftover chicken and nothing more. This morning he wouldn't touch his food so I spoon fed him and put some in his mouth. He vomited it out 15mins later. And now he vomited again but just saliva. It's now noon and I think he's hungry, should I be feeding him now or wait till his dinner?

Wait 12 hours since he last vomited before offering him food to allow his stomach a chance to settle. Offer him small amounts of water at a time and continue doing that to prevent dehydration. I hope that helps you! Thanks for asking Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!
