Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed | 45 lbs

Hello. I have a 7.5 month old golden retriever mix female who is scheduled for spay surgery tomorrow at 8am. Shes had her labs done and is in good health. Ive just found 2 drops of blood on her pad and now I dont know whether she can have her procedure tomorrow. She had not given signs of heat and her vet checked her last week and her genitals were not inflammed or anything. Her vet is closed for the day and I dont know what to do. Should I cancel the appt? Thank you.

Hello. It does sound like Jean is early in her heat cycle, but it really depends on your veterinarian to determine if she is still a go for surgery. While spaying a dog in heat is technically a slightly riskier surgery, it is only minimally so, especially so early in the cycle. Call your vet in the morning & see if they are OK to do the surgery ( I would be ), or if the surgery needs to be postponed. In such a young dog, there should be no problems.
