Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund miniature | Female | spayed | 5 years and 11 months old | 15 lbs
My dachshund very timid and afraid of strangers, but I am trying to help her be more socialized. I was invited to my friends' lake house for the weekend with some other people, and I'm wondering would it be more stressful to take her with me and be around a bunch of new people, or to leave her at a kennel? I can't leave her at home as I have no one to watch her and she is more tolerant of a stranger caring for her in a neutral territory (such as the vet). I just want to do what's best for her!

Take her with you, but bring a crate for her to "escape" to if she becomes overly stressed. Consider a pheromone product, such as the Adaptil collar, which may decrease any anxiety. You don't need to have her out all weekend, just for short periods, so she can acclimate to people. If you feel it will be too stressful, then board her for the weekend and begin acclimating her to people upon your return. Introduce her to one person at a time for ever increasing periods of time. Praise and reward her as she progresses.
