Why does my cat have extra skin in her eyes and peeling paws?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 2 years and 3 months old

My cats eyes look like they have extra skin floating around on them. In the photo it is visible on right eye. Left has the same but not visible in photo. My other cats lick her eye and ear area alot. All 4 paws are peeling and slightly scabbed. What could be the problem?

Hello. This is quite concerning. This may be some kind of autoimmune reaction or a severe intraocular infection. The eye really needs to be examined with the right equipment, either an ophthalmoscope or slit-lamp scope to see beyond the cornea into the deeper chambers of the eye. Coatie really needs to be seen, probably by a veterinary ophthalmologist, but you can start with your regular vet. I hope you can have her seen soon to prevent further damage that may lead to permanent loss of vision. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
