My 8 year old mixed breed beagle/Jack Russell is panting and coughing. Our vet is closed tonight, but I am taking her in tomorrow as soon as I can get an appointment. Could this be her heart? Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 8 years and 5 months old | 24 lbs

It could be cardiac related or may be a respiratory infection. To be safe, have Cookie examined tonight at the nearest veterinary ER. If she is stable, you can see your veterinarian tomorrow. Chest x-rays may be recommended. An echocardiogram (ultrasound of the heart) can be done to assess cardiac architecture and function.
